Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We offer four programmes for children and two classes for adults.
For children, classes are categorised by age and/or ability level and adult classes are open to everyone aged 18 years or older.
Our Twinkle Tots programme is aimed at children between 18 months and 4 years. A parent attends with the child and helps them at the start of their Starbrite journey.
For older children, we offer three programmes, two of which are focused on different styles of dance and performance and the third is based on gymnastics and acrobatics.
The Star Dancer programme includes ballet, tap, and theatre craft styles of dance in a single class.
The Star Performer programme includes commercial (freestyle/street) dance and musical theatre genres in a single class.
The Star Gymnast programme includes gymnastics and acrobatics in a single class.
For adults, we offer tap classes and a class of ever-changing dance styles called DanceFusion.
If you would like to discuss your requirements with us, please feel free to contact us, we'll be happy to advise you.
The cost of each class varies depending upon duration, but you can view individual class prices by browsing our timetable. Customers are invoiced monthly at the start of every month and pay online using one of our electronic payment methods described here.
All classes operate during school terms according to the local council (East Riding of Yorkshire Council for our Shiptonthorpe studio and York Council for our Upper Poppleton venues). Please see the footer of our website for details of upcoming class dates and associated invoicing periods.
We also operate workshops during school holidays, details of which are published throughout the year on our events page.
Each class has its own guidelines for attendance based largely on a combination of age and experience. Our Twinkle Tots parent & toddler class takes children from when they are able to walk independently. Our adult classes are for students aged 18 years and over. All other classes are available for all child age groups. If in doubt, please contact us or check out class requirements on our timetable.
We do not enforce a uniform but we do recommend one. Details of which classes require which uniform can be found on the specific class pages and can be bought from our online shop. Prices of each uniform vary depending on size. Please see our guide here for purchasing uniform and booking a fitting appointment.
Children should be dropped off outside the front door and collected outside the back door of the business unit/studio assigned to their class. This is specified against each class a student is registered for in the Starbrite Customer Portal (please check out this video to find out how to check your class information).
Videos showing how and where to drop off and collect your child can be found here for Shiptonthorpe and here for York.
The only class in which parents are expected to stay with their child is our Twinkle Tots parent and toddler class. Parents are not permitted to stay with their child in any of our other classes.
We have a public café available in unit 15 of our Shiptonthorpe studios where parents can enjoy our selection of food and drinks whilst waiting for their child.
We are a COVID-secure venue. You can view our policies and procedures here.
This web page also contains videos which demonstrate how to enter and exit Starbrite venues at both Shiptonthorpe and Upper Poppleton.
